When to use teledentistry

You can use Delta Dental teledentistry visits when:

  • You need access to a dentist after hours and your dentist is not available.
  • You would like to consult with a dentist without leaving home or while traveling.

How to use teledentistry

  • First, contact your regular dentist. If it is after regular business hours, listen to their outgoing phone message or check their website for emergency instructions.
  • If your regular dentist is not available, you are traveling, or you do not have a regular dentist, click on the 'Get started now' button to be connected with a dentist in minutes.

How does it work?

  • A dentist will provide an initial consultation and can write prescriptions when appropriate.
  • If additional dental care is needed, will refer you to a local Delta Dental network dentist for definitive diagnosis and treatment.
  • Your dentist will also receive notes on your consultation with for further treatment.

Important note: a virtual visit is considered to be a "problem-focused exam" and counts as one of your annual examinations covered by your dental plan.

  • What conditions can teledentistry manage?
    • Dentists can determine through consultation whether you have an emergency dental problem and can provide instructions on how to treat conditions.
