Greater Nashua Dental Connection Awarded $7,500 by Northeast Delta Dental Foundation

7/1/2010

Northeast Delta Dental Foundation awarded $7,500 to the Greater Nashua Dental Connection (GNDC) in support of its school dental program, which provides oral health services to children from 18 area schools. Thirty local dentists volunteer their time at the clinic to provide checkups for uninsured students. With the support of school nurses and health administrators, the clinic serves approximately 30-50 students per month, depending on the needs of the school.

The GNDC’s goal is to ensure access to oral health care for all low income children in Greater Nashua. GNDC believes it is crucial to provide children proper dental care at a young age. Many of these children have never been to the dentist because they don't have dental coverage or any other form of financial support. GNDC’s school dental program reduces the proportion of low-income children with untreated dental decay in their primary teeth through individual care and intervention.

Secretary and Assistant Treasurer to the Foundation board, Betty Andrews, said, “We appreciate this opportunity to support the Greater Nashua Dental Connection because Northeast Delta Dental shares its concern for reaching children early with oral health education and services. Often such intervention prevents dental disease later in life, and overall health can be impacted in very positive ways.” The Northeast Delta Dental Foundation funds oral health programs in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

The overall mission of Greater Nashua Dental Connection (GNDC) is to improve access to affordable dental care to individuals and families who qualify for services, those who are at or below 200% of the national poverty level, are without dental insurance and live in Greater Nashua. It is the only collaborative dental clinic of its kind in Southern New Hampshire and the only agency in Greater Nashua that provides comprehensive, preventive, restorative and emergency oral health care for all life cycles. GNDC serves people of all ages, regardless of financial, linguistic, cultural or geographic barriers and facilitates access to dental services.
