”The Delta Dental Plan of Maine has been a long-time supporter of Community Dental’s efforts to increase access to oral health care for the people of Maine. This grant award for equipment at the new Biddeford Dental Health Center has significantly contributed to the success of the project, and we greatly appreciate their ongoing support,” said Lisa C. Kavanaugh, Community Dental’s chief executive officer.
“Community Dental’s funding request was very attractive to the Delta Dental Plan of Maine board of directors because there was excellent collaboration among community and state leaders, residents, health and dental professionals and state-wide grant makers to bring much-needed oral health care services to the area,” said Kathleen Walker, APR, director of external affairs at Northeast Delta Dental. “In addition,” Walker said, “the Biddeford Free clinic needed a location to continue its successful oral health program, and Community Dental provided the needed partnership.”
Community Dental, a nonprofit dental health care organization, has provided comprehensive dental services to residents of York County since 1971. The new Biddeford Dental Health Center replaced smaller clinics in Saco and Sanford. The Center is staffed by Maine licensed dentists and hygienists, with the capacity to provide dental care to over 5,000 people of all ages each year. Community Dental serves its patients by accepting Medicaid, reimbursement by dental insurance carriers, and by offering a sliding fee scale for the uninsured.
