Delta Dental Plan of Maine Scholarships
Fund Distribution Protocols

Launched in 2005, the Delta Dental Plan of Maine Dental Hygiene Scholarship Fund dedicated $250,000 to scholarships to be awarded over a five-year period. Each year 10 students are selected, five from University of New England and five from University of Maine, Bangor. The scholarship program targets high school seniors and adult learners to attract them to careers in dental hygiene. Each students receives $5,000 over the course of their training, as long as their grades are within acceptable academic standards.

High school students who are selected for scholarships receive $500 the first year and $1,250 in each of the two subsequent training years. Adult learners receive $1,250 a year for two years. Students who have completed one year of science usually require two more years to finish the program.

Delta Dental Plan of Maine is not involved in the selection process, which is handled by the educational institution to which these funds are provided. Students or potential students should contact the Financial Aid offices at either University to learn more about the scholarship award process.
